As you may have already heard, late last week MLB officially announced that Los Angeles Dodger starting pitcher Trevor Bauer was handed down a 324 game suspension effective immediately due to violating the league’s domestic violence and sexual assault policies. This is the first suspension of its kind that Major League Baseball has issued under this policy and could be an interesting dive into it.

With the NBA Playoffs going on, there are a lot of things that can be getting us money. NBA parlay picks are definitely one of them as they make the odds a lot more in your favor. Let’s dive into Bauer and MLB a little bit more.

What Will Bauer Do?

Trevor Bauer has already announced that he intends to appeal the suspension. Just like any other suspension that is appealed, this will be discussed and most likely lessen the length of a suspension by a considerable amount. Bauer’s argument can be that he has been on administrative leave for almost a full year as he last pitched in a game back on June 28 of last season.

Appealing the suspension is big as he believes that he did not do anything wrong and is standing by that. It is interesting to see this take place in real time as in the National Football League, there is a similar thing going on with the Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson facing a similar type of charge and awaiting a decision by his league. If he is suspended for another two full seasons, that could be catastrophic to his playing career, as we will discuss later.

He is active on his social media and YouTube channel to give people insights to his life that many players have avoided doing. Bauer could be viewed as the example by the league to ensure other players in a similar situation have this in the back of their minds. Remember that Bauer was not charged with anything in a criminal court case but MLB had its own investigation that found he was worthy of the lengthy suspension.

What Will Bauer’s Career Look Like?

Writing this can seem a bit insensitive to the situation, which is something I am trying to avoid, but looking at what’s next for Trevor Bauer in terms of baseball is something to talk about here as well. As we noted earlier, Bauer has not pitched in a game since June 28, 2021 as he was placed on administrative leave due to the impending investigation MLB had. During the leave, he was paid so the league did not consider that as part of the suspension.

However, if he is not to pitch until the 2024 season, that is almost three years since he was pitching in a major league game. Besides that, he is going to be viewed as a locker room cancer as there were reports that some of his Los Angeles Dodgers teammates were not fans of his. Baseball is a fraternity so that could be spread across the league.

Bauer was the highest paid pitcher in MLB history in terms of average annual value (AAV for short) with $34 million per year at the time of signing his deal. There are technological advances that can keep him being able to keep his velocity and break on his pitches. However, it will definitely be interesting to see with all the issues that have piled up, both right and wrong, if another team is going to want to deal with him.

Conclusion

When healthy and pitching, Trevor Bauer is a top-20 pitcher in baseball. He has a Cy Young Award in the bag, won the ERA title, and had an All-Star appearance in his career. This could be a very interesting thing as he definitely has the skills but the suspension and subsequent time off from it is going to be a major turnoff for organizations. The appeal process will likely reduce his suspension to a full season but the locker room aspect will be one of the things that can possibly keep him off the mound for the rest of his MLB career.
